Founder & Director
Abir Qazilbash

Abir is an undergraduate International Relations student and LSE Student Ambassador. She directs and oversees all aspects of the project, including strategic development and establishing partnerships with institutions, financial sponsorship and working closely with all the committee teams and LSE Students' Union, Academic Faculty and alumni networks. The amount of dedication and resilience Abir saw in the students she met whilst teaching and mentoring some of the most disadvantaged communities across the globe - from young cancer patients in an NGO hospital in Pakistan to recent asylum seekers to the UK - inspired her to find a sustainable means of support and mentorship. Hence, she established the  Global Right to Education Project, following her belief in the right for universal education, as a means of empowerment and economic development - in spite of geopolitical challenges. The project is a unique platform for long-term liaison between students at universities like LSE, and underprivileged students abroad. Outside the project, she interns at an investment fund, and completed a long-term placement in the UK Parliament.

Nuzhat Ahmed is General Secretary for the project. She is in her final Undergraduate year at LSE studying Sociology and can't wait to see how this project progresses to make real changes to peoples', lives by providing the support and education every person has a right to.  She'll be the main point of contact for members of the society, so if you drop an email, she'll be quick to pick it up.

Mahmoudat Sanni-Oba is originally from Nigeria, and the Logistics Director for Global Rights to Education. She co-ordinates and administers the registers for the programme, ensuring that the programme runs smoothly, as well as allocating mentors to students in the countries that we are working with.

COUNTRY CO-ORDINATORS

Sarmad Iqbal was involved in raising and distributing money and basic items such as food and tents for the earthquake victims of Pakistan in 2008 and then the flood victims in 2010. Having spent the majority of his life living and studying in Pakistan, he is strongly attached to the the country's development.Neelgoon Safdar, who is also from Pakistan originally, is working diligently with Sarmad to contact local contacts including schools and NGOs, to create a functioning liaison with students from underprivileged backgrounds.

Donara is in her final year at the LSE, and an incoming intern at Bell Pottinger and former intern at the United Nations. Shas been contacting NGOs working with displaced Syrian refugees, as well as local students, who have been affected by the ongoing conflict. She has established a partnership agreement and will continue to identify eligible students to work with.

Sara Khawandi is originally from Lebanon, and has been tenaciously dedicated to the project since joining. Her role involves regularly co-ordinating with our contacts at United Lebanon Youth Project, to further the connection established last year. She will be ensuring everything runs smoothly between UK Undergraduate mentors, and their partner students from various refugee camps across Lebanon. Furthermore, she will provisionally be organising a trip for mentors to meet the high school students from the Lebanese camps in Summer. Outside the project, Sara is an incoming analyst for a leading investment bank.

As the Gaza-Coordinators, we, Yasmeen and Anna, have a role of contacting and coordinating with educational institutions, universities and non-governmental organisation in Gaza and the West Bank in order to find bright young Undergraduate students from underprivileged backgrounds who wish to apply for a Masters Degree in an international University but face financial, cultural and certain educational barriers in the application process. The Gaza-coordinators also liaise with the logistics team to allocate the students found with their mentors and facilitate a stable and long-lasting relationship. Additionally we have a role of coordinating with the scholarship officers in order to find the best possible opportunities available to these students to ensure they are not deprived of their right to education by mere financial barriers. We believe that the right to education is one which should not be restricted by any political, economic or social factors. Education is the key to success and progress!
